Official Holidays


The governmental institutions do not operate on Fridays and Saturdays, as the departments, banks and the private institutions close their doors except banks in malls, which open at 10 AM until 10 PM, as well as most of private corporations which close their doors.   

  • 1 December annually is the New Year.
  • 1 May annually is the Labour Day.
  • 25 May annually is the Independence Day.
  • 25 January annually is the Christmas.


There are holidays which depend on the Lunar Calendar, including The Easter and The Islamic holidays as follows:

  • Eid Al-Fitr, 3 or 4 days after the month of Ramadan.
  • Eid Al-Adha, 4 days at the end of HaJJ, on 10 Dhu al-Hijja annually.
  • Islamic New Year, 1st of Muharram according to the Hijri Calendar.
  • Birthday of the Prophet Mohammed, it is an anniversary for birth of the Prophet Mohammed (PUBH).
